The news came into light when the WordPress team made an official announcement of rolling out plugin named – ‘Newspack’. This initiative is intended to help small- and medium-sized news organizations and also purported to be an inexpensive platform for publishers.
Notably, this project is backed by Google News Initiative with a $12 million investment. The other prominent supporters include Consensys which backs venture studio Civil Media – $ 350,000. The Lenfest Institute for Journalism and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation invested $400,000 and $250,000, respectively.
Also, the ConsenSys-backed Civil Media is providing newsrooms through which Newspack can be accessed and will be offered the option to use blockchain-based features.
The benefiting feature in this product is that newsrooms can permanently archive content on a decentralized network, which will be installed as a plugin on the WordPress platform.
