Famed educational institute, Standford University has launched Blockchain research center. The detail report of the launch was posted on official site on June 20. The interesting fact here is that the project is backed by Ethereum Foundation.
With cryptocurrency gaining its popularity, the university is keen on studying the impact of this on current business interactions.
The leading people involved in this research are Dan Boneh and David Mazières, professors of Computer science dept. and with the inclusion of few others professors from physics and law dept.
As per statements made by Professor Boneh,
“Blockchains will become increasingly critical to doing business globally,[…] Stanford should be at the forefront of efforts to improve, apply and understand the many ripple effects of this technology.”
While the Etherum Foundation is a major supporter of this five-year research plan, there are others who have come forward to help the team. Namely, Protocol Labs, the Interchain Foundation, crypto exchange OmiseGO, DFINITY Stiftung and PolyChain Capital.
Furthermore, the professor Boneh highlights the importance of blockchain in sectors like finance and data management. Indeed the University is also planning to launch Blockchain Implementation courses which will be pivotal in streamlining the blockchain growth.
This is not the first instance for blockchain being adopted in Universities for researching. For example, Australian RMIT University launched education offers for blockchain research in the month of February.
