In response to the WikiLeaks shop ban by Coinbase, Wikileaks organization has called for ‘Global Blockade’ on Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange ‘as an unfit member of the crypto community’.
The shop is popular for its items sold such as clothing, accessories, phone cases, books etc., with the recent addition of crypto kitties to its store.
As per the announcement by Wikileaks, Coinbase platform has banned the shop without any prior intimation or explanation. The organization has posted the letter sent to them by Coinbase which states that
Coinbase is a regulated Money Service Business under Fincen and is obligated to implement regulatory compliance mechanisms.
It further elaborates that,
“Upon careful review, we believe your account has engaged in prohibited use in violation of our Terms of Service and we regret to inform you that we can no longer provide you with access to our service.”
Wikileaks in response to Coinbase action has published that,
“Wikileaks will call for a global blockade of Coinbase next week as an unfit member of the crypto community. Coinbase, a large Californian Bitcoin processor, responding to a concealed influence, has blocked the entirely harmless @Wikileaksshop in a decision approved by management.”
As of now, there is no much of clarity as to what ‘Blockade’ would mean by the organization. But our guess is ‘boycott’. However, Britts won’t have much choice as Coinbase will soon be the only platform to provide instant fiat deposits and withdrawals
WikiLeaks Shop has been blocked from receiving cryptocurrency payments since March, about the same time that Assange lost access to the web and as reported by a staff member from the shop,
It’s a threat to WikiLeaks, a similar thing happened a few years ago when PayPal and MasterCard launched a blockade
