Moscow’s Government Use Ethereum to Support Farmers Market

Moscow capital of Russia where farmers from nearby farms cultivate wheat and barley during the season. After the harvest before the farmers sell the crops, they need to bid for trading spots in the Markets. The government of Moscow has a plan to use Ethereum to allot trading spot during the weekend farmers markets.

Currently, the traditional system is used to allocate the spots in the farmers market. With this method, farmers are unhappy due to manual work and time spent to review the applications submitted by the farmers. And there is no transparency in the current system which makes the farmers doubt the authorities.

Around 15,000 trading spots are available in the Farmers Market. For which 20,000 applications are being submitted with their bidding every year.

Government’s Plan to Use Ethereum

According to Andrey Borodyonkov, Blockchain product manager at Moscow City Hall stated by using Ethereum technology it will be very much transparent for the farmers to know who have been approved and those who are rejected after the submission.

“Blockchain is an additional guarantee that the incoming applications remain immutable as well as makes the audit of the application history possible” says Andrey Borodyonkov.

Also, he explains that how blockchain will make this system of allocation of spots transparent and farmers can even know why their applications have been approved or rejected. This will make the system totally transparent with the help of blockchain.

The Moscow City Hall is contributing to support the farmers and to complete the project the already have blockchain developers who were hired back in 2016 and now in 2018 the team working are called as ‘Product Blockchain’. This team will work with Moscow City Hall to develop the project.
