For IMF, an international regulation of cryptocurrency is inevitable.

In an interview with CNN Money International Monetary Fund ( IMF ) Managing Director Christine Lagarde stated that cryptocurrency has many dark activity behind the scene, so the IMF tries to prevent their use for money laundering or terrorist financing. She said

We are actively engaged in anti money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism.

Which shows that the institution is trying to prevent the use of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency for money laundering and terrorist financing .

In addition, Christine Lagarde added

We had entity based regulation over the course of last 10 years after the financial crises .We clearly have to move to the activity based regulation.

This means that regulators need to focus on how and by whom transactions will be carried out, their control and also on the availability of necessary licenses for operators.
